Three generations of baking, one Savannah kitchen

Meet the Baker

Elena Marchetti

Elena Marchetti grew up in her grandmother Lucia's kitchen in southern Italy, learning the feel of dough before she could read recipes. Those early mornings — flour-dusted aprons, the warmth of a wood-fired oven, the smell of bread rising in the dark — shaped everything she would become.

After culinary school, Elena spent three years training under master pâtissiers in Lyon, France, perfecting croissant lamination and sourdough fermentation. She studied the science behind the craft, but never lost the soul her grandmother taught her.

In 2019, Elena brought those old-world techniques home to the South, opening Flour & Ember in a sun-drenched Savannah storefront. “Baking isn't just a craft,” she says. “It's how my family has always said 'I love you.'”

Today, Flour & Ember serves thousands of customers weekly, but every loaf is still shaped by hand, every pastry folded with the same care Lucia taught Elena decades ago.
